Let's look at looking after our skin from inside out!
I have recently introduced Skinade into my clinic. This is a Neutraceutical which improves skin health and tone, helps with wound healing, reduces inflammation and enhances the outcome of all the treatments we complete in-house.
I am often asked about my thoughts re over the counter or online supplements which have collagen in. I am a sceptic and approach most treatments with suspicion, particularly when they advise for sensitive skin or approved by Dermatologists! However, I have been to several conferences over the past 2 years where Skinade have been present for Medical Professionals to review.
Skinaide is promoted as a Neutraceutical which is defined as ' A food or part of a food, such as a dietary supplement, that has a medical or health benefit, including the prevention and treatment of disease'
Neutraceutical is a natural remedy and skin health is dependent on a really good supply of essential nutrients; the active ingredients which are present are -
7000mg Collagen peptide- This is high grade marine collagen peptides which are sourced from freshwater fish, low in sodium and avoid any mercury contamination. ( Did you know that there are 28 different collagen, but we only need to focus on 1-3 for our skin)!
Vitamin C -A high level of vitamin C (180mg) which is crucial for natural collagen formation and maintaining the collagen matrix. Vitamin C is also vital for protecting the skin which is completed by boosting the immune system and thereby reducing free-radical damage; for example; dehydration, sun damage.
Vitamin B complexes - Riboflavin (Vitamin B2); will also help with protecting cells from oxidative stress
Niacin(Vit B3) and biotin all contribute to the maintenance of normal skin health.
Folic Acid and B12 also contribute to the process of cell division.
L-Lysin- This is an essential amino acid that is key to rebuilding the collagen within the cellular layer.
Omegas 3&6 are sourced from organic flax-seed which play an essential part in balancing the dry and oily skin.
MSM - Methylsulfonylmethane - An organic sulfer which binds the collagen fibres together, stimulates elastin as well as promotes skin hydration, detoxifies the skin, alongside being a mild inflammatory and increases skin and hair health.
Notable improvements to skin have been seen when used alongside weight loss injections as the body will lose up to 30% collagen and one of the concerns voiced is that the skin looks tired.
I have found what I believe to be the best way forward in helping patients with not only using external techniques to enhance their skin; but to also consider to implement Skinaide as part of their skin health due the evidence based research known in relation to so many factors which influence ageing and skin health from within our body. By combining both in-house treatments with Neutraceuticals we are maximising overall skin health.
If you were to take Skinaide in tablet form you would be taking 20 tablets a day!
By increasing our own collagen it increases our Hyaluronic Acid responsible for optimising skin hydration. It rebuilds the collagen and strengthens the matrix, boosts hydration levels and as a result will reduce fine lines and wrinkles, but it also helps reduce cellulite and inflammation to the skin as well as being an excellent addition to increase wound healing pre / post surgery.
If you are strict vegetarian / vegan , apologies but this is not for you.
If pregnant/ Breast feeding would need to consult your Obstetrician / midwife before taking.
I would also advise contacting your Oncologist if you are interested in taking.
There are several different Neutraceuticals which can be taken, dependent on what you are looking for in relation to your outcomes. You don't even have to have a treatment- you can use as stand alone.
